Welcome, I am David Ricks. I am a personal injury trial lawyer in Rancho Cucamonga and the principal of the Inland Empire Law Group. One question that we often get asked is when should I hire an attorney if I have been involved in an accident. The first thing you want to consider is how serious was the accident. If you were actually seriously injured, you should consult with an attorney right away, and hire the attorney that you feel most comfortable with and the one that you think will do the best job for you. If your injuries are not so serious, maybe it was a fender bender and that injury is some what transitory within a couple of days or with in a week or two the injury goes away, you may not even need an attorney. You may want to consider just resolving your claim directly with the insurance company without the need of an attorney. Now lets get to the middle part. Not the extreme where there are serious injuries, and not the other extreme where there are not many injuries or any injuries at all. But in that middle range where there are was a moderate impact and you are having some problems. I would strongly consider consulting with an attorney fairly early on, because if you don’t, much of the evidence that may be necessary to prove your case may disappear. Such things as bruising may go away, and if there is no evidence of that bruising there may be nothing left to evidence the seriousness of the injury or the damages that you suffered. Also, an attorney hired early on can help you find the right treating physician that will get you back on your feet and back to work and back to your life right away. And that is really part of the process when working with an attorney is making sure that you get back on your feet and back into your normal routine as soon as possible. There after the attorney can work on resolving your case as soon as possible. So depending on the seriousness of the accident, will depend on how soon you should hire a lawyer but I often encourage everybody to seek consult fairly early on at least you will know what to do before things go really bad.
